Layered Nursery

Mindy Gayer

We love when our clients come to us at the stage of getting ready for baby, and want to go ALL OUT. We’ve seen such a trend towards gender neutral minimalism for nurseries, that we wanted to take a moment to share some of our favourite maximalism, layered nursery details that we just can’t get enough of!

Wall Paper

Let’s forget the paint and go right into the perfectly scaled print. This can be such a great jumping off point for neutral pieces of furniture and soft layers of fabric. We love the idea of investing in a print that will stand the test of time or even to celebrate the birth of a new life. Either way, wall paper always has our hearts.

Textures

Adding in a layer, means adding in a texture. Whether it’s soft elements like throws or textured flush mounts, these all work together to bring in a more harmonious feel to the nursery space. We recommend going neutral with the furniture, perhaps wood tones or painted wood tones on the crib, and slip covered everything - because..well, you know!

Window Treatments

Black-out, or white-out as we call the lighter tone linen backed sun blocking drapes are KEY to any nursery. We always love adding in a layered roman, but truly selecting the perfect drape can bring on nap time at any time of day. We are currently loving the horizontal stipe and using it in as many spaces as we can.

Durable Fabrics

Think durability on everything from your rug to your rocking chair. That doesn’t mean you have to forget beauty when selecting washable and durable elements, and in this case we love a woven rug and a wipeable/washable cotton for furniture and soft throws.

Lauren Lane’s Nursery

We are also linking here one of favourite nurseries that recently had a new make over to welcome their new born second son. We still love a minimal approach to design as it can help kids grow into their spaces so beautifully and allows us to select pieces that are timeless and classic.
